NISSAN / SERENA / 2016 REDESIGN

Nissan Serena C27 Era

The fifth-generation Serena introduced a useful split tailgate. e-POWER arrived later, so the year and grade matter.

Start with
the right car.

Nissan started Japanese sales of the fully redesigned Serena on 24 August 2016. Its dual back door could open just the upper section where space behind the car was tight. ProPILOT was offered on specified versions, including an initial limited-time edition. Nissan announced Serena e-POWER sales for March 2018. A 2016 Serena must not automatically be described as e-POWER or ProPILOT-equipped.

01

Decide if the split door earns its keep

The upper opening can help with loading when the full tailgate has little room. Inspect both latches, seals and struts on the actual car; check garage clearance in both modes.

02

Separate S-HYBRID and e-POWER

The 2016 table includes petrol and S-HYBRID systems; the motor-driven e-POWER version came in 2018. Confirm the exact engine and electrification from the Japanese documents.

03

Verify driver assistance

ProPILOT was available on certain 2016 versions, not proof of a universal standard feature. Check the fitted controls and operation and do not treat assistance as self-driving.

Check the build date, Japanese grade, chassis/type code and fitted equipment. No engine, seating, drive or feature should be copied into a vehicle advert without matching evidence.

Turn research
into proof.

Use the guide to ask precise questions about a real car. Review its records and inspect the actual vehicle before a buying decision.

  1. Check the model year, grade, drive and powertrain against Japanese papers.
  2. Test both parts of the tailgate, both sliding doors and all seating modes.
  3. Inspect service records and warning lights for the chosen drivetrain.
  4. Confirm UK insurance and registration for the exact car and its fitted features.

State whether the dual back door, ProPILOT or post-2018 e-POWER is essential; ask the seller to prove each feature on a proposed car.
