HONDA / STEP WGN / 2015 LAUNCH

Honda Stepwgn RP Era

The fifth-generation Stepwgn brought a 1.5 turbo and a clever tailgate option. Check whether the car actually has the door you want.

Start with
the right car.

Honda began Japanese sales of its fifth-generation Stepwgn on 24 April 2015. The launch petrol range combined a direct-injection 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO with a CVT and offered front- or four-wheel drive. Honda's under-floor third-row storage continued; selected versions also had the side-opening Waku Waku Gate within the tailgate. The 2015 launch document does not describe every later RP variant.

01

Try the tailgate in a real parking space

Honda described the Waku Waku Gate as dependent on type. Its side sub-door can be useful where there is little room behind the car, but a photograph or badge is no substitute for confirming the fitted hinge and latch.

02

Choose the second row

Named launch grades had seven seats as standard; an optional bench could provide eight. Ask for a cabin walk-through and verify that the floor-stowing third row operates freely.

03

Keep safety options tied to grade

Honda Sensing was a manufacturer's option in the 2015 material. Confirm the actual controls, warning lamps and documentation before paying for an advertised driver-assistance package.

Check the build date, Japanese grade, chassis/type code and fitted equipment. No engine, seating, drive or feature should be copied into a vehicle advert without matching evidence.

Turn research
into proof.

Use the guide to ask precise questions about a real car. Review its records and inspect the actual vehicle before a buying decision.

  1. Record year, trim, drive and seating from the car's Japanese documents.
  2. Open the full tailgate and any side sub-door; check hinges, seals and operation.
  3. Test the under-floor third row, sliding doors and all advertised electronics.
  4. Check service and condition evidence, then confirm the car-specific UK route and insurance.

Say whether a side-opening tailgate or eight seats is essential. Those two requirements must be verified on the proposed RP car, not assumed from the model name.
