Skyline GT-R R34

The last Skyline GT-R generation. This guide focuses on the BNR34 GT-R, not every R34 Skyline.

WHY THIS CAR MATTERS

More than the badge.

The R34 GT-R is not simply an R34 Skyline with a badge. The BNR34 brought the RB26DETT and ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive to the final Skyline GT-R generation. It is compact by modern GT-R standards, but a buying decision lives in the details: authenticity, corrosion and the quality of any past work.

You sit low, with the long bonnet ahead and a car that still feels mechanically busy. The RB26 rewards careful maintenance. A beautifully presented exterior is no substitute for a straight shell and documented work.

BUYING GUIDE

Look underneath.

Useful checks before paying a deposit. A specialist inspection remains essential.

  1. Verify BNR34 chassis identity and trim against original documents.
  2. Inspect sills, arches, underbody and previous repair areas on a lift.
  3. Review RB26 service history, cooling, oil leaks and turbo-related work.
  4. Check clutch, gearbox and all-wheel-drive operation on a proper road test.
  5. Treat high-power tuning claims as a request for invoices, mapping records and mechanical inspection.

JMH IMPORT INSIGHT

At the Japanese auction.

Ask for the original auction sheet and translation, underside photographs and repair-history detail. An auction grade cannot prove rust-free structure or original V-Spec equipment.

UK OWNERSHIP

After it arrives.

Arrange insurance before purchase, then confirm parts, fuel and specialist servicing for the actual modified or standard car. Check the current UK registration and import steps before committing.
