MITSUBISHI / DELICA D:5 / 2007 ONWARD

Mitsubishi Delica D:5

An outdoor-minded three-row MPV whose long life spans very different engines and front ends. Date the car before describing it.

Manufacturer-based generation guide · no stock implied

Start with
the right car.

Mitsubishi dates the Delica D:5's Japanese introduction to January 2007 and calls it the fifth Delica generation. Its 2019 ‘new Delica D:5’ announcement covered a revised diesel and eight-speed automatic, while Mitsubishi explicitly said the earlier petrol version remained on sale. A single D:5 badge therefore cannot establish fuel, gearbox or drivetrain.

01

Locate the update in time

The more angular 2019 front design marks a major revision, but parts and equipment still need the precise year and grade. Do not assume an older petrol car has the later diesel hardware.

02

Match use to the individual car

Three rows and an outdoor image do not prove that a particular Delica is four-wheel drive, has a specific ground clearance or meets a towing need. Ask for the model code and fitted equipment.

03

Inspect the lived-in details

Test sliding doors, seat-folding hardware, underbody condition and service evidence. For a diesel, request the correct service history and a specialist inspection before discussing likely running costs.

These facts describe a dated Japanese release. A later update, a different grade or an individual imported car can differ.

Check the build date, Japanese grade, chassis/type code and fitted equipment. No engine, seating, drive or feature should be copied into a vehicle advert without matching evidence.

Turn research
into proof.

Use the guide to ask precise questions about a real car. Review its records and inspect the actual vehicle before a buying decision.

  1. Match model year, engine, drive and grade to Japanese documents and chassis identification.
  2. Photograph the actual cabin layout and operate doors and third-row mechanisms.
  3. Inspect underbody and prior repairs in light of the car's intended use.
  4. Get a vehicle-specific UK insurance and import quote; do not reuse a different D:5's figures.

Define whether you want the earlier petrol character or the 2019 revised diesel, then list passenger, luggage and driving needs. Ask for evidence on any proposed car.
